Capone
.
The Capone was a product of the desire to create an amp that would be as versatile as it was smooth and easy to use. Totaling about 20 watts of pure Class A power, this amp stands as one of the most sonically refined amps we have to offer. In order to add to the versatility of this amp, both channels can be used at the same time in any combination desired, adding an infinite amount of tones available to the user. This amp takes pedals extraordinarily well!
.
Channel 1
The first channel is a single EF806 with a tone control that is really a bass rolloff, allowing you to dial in more or less bass, and at the same time, more or less gain. It really is an odd control, but even the first time you test it out, it will quickly become clear how it works and the versatility it brings (single coil guitars benefit from the tone knob down while humbuckers work well with the tone control somewhere around 9 o’clock where the bass is a bit tighter).
.
With this channel, you can go from pristine cleans, to crunchy, boutique distortion that would make the most ardent purist drool!
.
Channel 2
The second channel includes two 12ax7 gain stages along with a cathode follower. The amp is capable of going from clean to dirty very quickly if desired, but also takes all kinds of pedals extraordinarily well. The tonestack chosen for this amp includes controls for Bass and Treble, and imparts a very glassy tone when both controls are at 50%. As the treble knob is turned up, the amp cleans up more and offers a very scooped tone, and as the treble knob is lowered, the amp pushes a good deal more mids, causing the amp to enter an overdrive that can only be described as creamy. The bass control on this amp allows for a significant amount of lows to be added (this amp can push more bass than any 15-20 watt amp should be able to push) or removed from the signal, offering a wide range of tonal options.
.
Power Amp
The Capone’s power section is comprised of a phase splitter driving two 6v6’s running at 20 watts through an ultralinear output transformer. 6v6’s were chosen for the power section of this amp in order to compliment the feel of the preamp and tonestack. There is zero negative feedback used in this design, resulting in a smoother breakup as well as a more three-dimensional sound quality.
.
The Capone is also offered as a 30 watt monster running 6L6’s.
These two sound clips present the sonic difference between the 6V6 and 6L6 outputs:
1. Capone 6V6
2.
Capone 6L6
***Both clips were recorded using one sm57 aimed straight at the V30 speaker in between the cap and cone (closer to the cone for a more mellow sound)***
.
The Capone is available as an Amp Head, 1x12 Combo , or 2x12 Combo
